yankee doodle remix!!! [26 May 2008|02:32pm]
[ mood | chipper ]

memorial day 2004, 4 years ago, was the day the milkman movie was made. then we watched spider-man, went to denny's, and had a sleepover party. that was the grestest barbecue ever.
i miss that summer more than anything.
but today is coming along pretty awesomely as well.

ah, christmas time. i love it. i love how the town is decorated... the streetlights, shop windows. how could anyone feel down this time of year? even nostalgia is embreaced at christmastime.

i'm hoping we can get a group together to drive around and look at christmas lights one night. then maybe we can stop at denny's for a slice of pie and hot cocoa.

as for my preparations, i still have more lights to string, cookies to bake, holiday classics to watch, and gifts to find. i love shopping for people's christmas gifts.

new christmas layout! [01 Dec 2007|10:03am]
[ mood | busy ]

christmas is my favorite time of year. this year it reminds me of... coat weather, scarf parties, trips to cocoa village, baking/destroying christmas cookies, candle light shopping downtown with bagpipe players, shopping with caitlin, parties at adam's house, watching cheesy movies, hanging out with donny, decorating, all kinds of things...

there's just a feeling in the air that EVERYONE seems to be aware of. and this year, i am going to do everything i can to make it better than before.

new autumn/thanksgiving layout; [12 Nov 2007|02:07pm]
[ mood | bouncy ]

i was looking at my thanksgiving post from 2003 and it was hilarious. it turned into an attack on society that started with the 'same as you' club.
haha, i think this one is going to be on more of the pleasant side.

thanksgiving is a time for family, friends, holiday spirit and great food. this year will be rather different than past years, but i'm going to make the best of it. my aunt will be here, and i think we're going to have a lot of fun.

i will be having a lot of pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes.
i will be thankful for what i have and hopeful for what i hope to receive.
hopefully the weather will be cool and pretty.
i wish we had big piles of leaves to play in.

[ mood | crazy ]

this cool autumn weather is very exciting to me.
i REALLY want to go on a hayride
or bring blankets to the beach/park.
or pick apples.
or go for a walk.
or snuggle up with someone to watch a SCARY movie.
or have a campfire with ghost stories.
anything like that.

my mother accidentally made a pumpkin pie WITHOUT the sugar.
it reminds me of the time we made sugar cookies without the sugar.
they were more like flour biscuits...

pumpkin pie sounds so good right now... [05 Oct 2007|05:21pm]
[ mood | annoyed plans fell through? ]

for a few years there, we had a tradition of seeing SAW and its sequels every halloween. usually donny was involved. anyway, i'm wondering... are people going to see it this year?

i have my halloween costume all set for the party. unfortunately, i can't tell anyone what it is...

this is such a great time of year. autumn mixed with creepiness. two of my personal favorites.

new layout; birthday! [03 Mar 2006|09:35am]
[ mood | anxious ]

i always loved getting all dressed up in a party dress and spending the day with my friends when i was little. birthdays and presents always seemed so much more exciting then.

there are a lot of family/friends birthdays this month, so march seems kind of like the birthday month. my birthday is the 14th, my sister's is the 15th, and caitlin's birthday is the 17th. so... happy birthday to us.

i hope we can arrange some kind of party.

new layout; valentine's day! [01 Feb 2006|12:13pm]
[ mood | blah ]

a greeting card holiday. a reminder to show love and appreciation for those we may take for granted throughout the rest of the year. these cards, flowers, and candy are much more romantic when they're done without a reminder. but somehow i like the idea as a "day of love". as far as friends and family go, i like taking a day to let them know how much i really do care for them. maybe i am just being sentimental about a silly holiday because it is the first valentine's ever where i have actually been in love.

i remember when i was little, my dad used to give my sister and i a little box of russell stover's chocolates. it was a very sweet thing to do. and in grade school, i would pass out my little valentines to everyone in the class. the boy i had a crush on always got a little extra word or two in his.
in high school, they had "candy grams". i was always so pleased to get my little jolly ranchers and carnations from friends. and once in awhile, you'd get the unexpected secret admirer candy gram. though you always had an idea who it was from.

new layout; new years! [31 Dec 2005|09:28am]
[ mood | restless ]

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

it's the last day of the year already. seems just yesterday i was thinking of a resolution for this year. and trying to figure out what to wear to the new year's eve party.

this day of the year always reminds me of classy old-fashioned dinner parties with live entertainment, cocktails, and party dresses. it's always a night i want to dress up for. in reality, it's a day of the twilight zone marathon(which i love), partying, and drinking too much.

hopefully this party won't be anything like last year's. and hopefully this next year will be even better for us all.

good luck in 2006, everyone.
tonight, have fun and stay safe.

the christmas season just puts me in a great mood. the way everything is decorated when you drive down streets, how cheerful people are... i love that people dress seasonally and put christmas ringtones on their cell phones. i love winter television commercials, and classic singers like bing crosby and sinatra that sing holiday songs.
people want to pay attention to the commercialism and the negative aspects of this time of year, but that's not what i focus on. the feeling you get this time of year is like no other. i only have a few days left to appreciate it, and i intend to do just that.
what's your favorite part of this season?

new layout; christmas [29 Nov 2005|04:58pm]
[ mood | cheerful ]

it's getting closer to that time again... that special time of the year that seems so much more joyful. it's getting colder and cities are decorated with seasonal things. lights and gift boxes adorn department store windows, wreathes hang from lamp posts and street signs. television commercials are all focused on the same thing.

inside homes, people are listening to carols, baking sweet cookies, and decorating trees. secretly when no one is around, they are taking their shopping bags down from their closets and beginning to wrap presents.

despite the craziness, this is my absolute favorite time of the year. there's something in the air that makes december stand out from every other month. curling up in a blanket, drinking hot tea, and watching christmas movies with friends after a day of shopping for the perfect gifts, is one of my favorite things to do around the holidays.

new layout; thanksgiving [05 Nov 2005|04:01pm]
[ mood | uncomfortable ]

this time of year, the harvest, when the land is rich with crops and blanketed in color. we used to go for walks downtown to enjoy the slight chill in the air and the leaves beneath our feet. windows were adorned with children's hands traces of turkeys, foliage, and big pumpkins.

at this time, the air has a slight chill in it and thanksgiving is within reach. it instantly reminds you of pilgrims, big family dinners, parades, football games, and four-day weekends.

the holiday was always something to look forward to. everyone would sit around their table, talking and laughing- enjoying one another's company... filling their plates with turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, casseroles, warm bread, and cranberry sauce.

and after the pies were served, the best was always taking a stroll down the quiet streets and smelling that for-off scent of cinnamon and burning firewood.

and the next day would be the biggest shopping day of year. the start of everyone's christmas lists.

autumn; [29 Sep 2005|04:07pm]
[ mood | tired ]

this time of year... right before the halloween decorations come down from the attic and up from the basement. autumn. you know the type of weather that comes with it... when the cinnamon air is chilly but you can still feel the warmth from the sun on your cheeks.

every year we'd go on field trips to the apple orchard and fill baskets with all the apples we could pick. then they'd give us fresh cider. our parents would bundle us up in warmth and take us down the road, pumpkin-picking, and we'd try to get the biggest, nicest one we could find. of course it'd be much too heavy to carry home ourselves.

we spent cool afternoons raking leaves into big piles and then jumping into them. and this was autumn. this was what we called... a change of season. i wish we had something like that here.

new layout; school. [16 Sep 2005|02:15pm]
[ mood | touched ]

it's september... a time when all of the students are back at school. beaches are emptier now. malls are quiet... vacationers get into cars and drive to their distant hometowns.

this brings up images of old one-room school houses on hillsides. children bring apples to their teacher, and the clown of the class sits in the corner with a dunce cap on his head.

the bell rings and the children run outside to play... in the schoolyard that's currently blanketed in crisp leaves that have just begun to fall seemingly from the dark grayish sky.

i miss going to school up north. there were always little activities to do for holidays. we'd collect red, yellow, and orange leaves and make collages for our mothers. i loved riding the school bus. i wouldn't talk to anyone... i'd just peer out the window at the changing autumn landscape. snug in my heavy coat.
